Courage or madness?
The truth behind bold moves in life and biz
"Maybe I'm crazy to have these dreams."
I had this thought yesterday morning as I was sitting at Starbucks with my son, waiting for my coffee to be ready.
As we sat there, I was envisioning a different reality. A world in which we lived in community, where the local coffee shop we visited was offering local, raw milk and a number of delicious and nutritious options.
There have been many moments like this, in my life and especially since becoming a mother. Wishing and dreaming for our systems, structures and society to be different.
"Maybe I'm crazy" I thought.
Can you imagine raw milk at Starbucks? LOL.
But then I received this follow up message:
"You have to be a little crazy if you want to change the world."
This isn't the first time I've heard this sentiment, but in this moment it really dropped into my body.
It's actually essential that you are a little crazy, a little (or a lot) delusional if you're here to create something that's never been created, whether that is a product, a service, a business, a legacy for your children, or a community.
It's can be hard when you exist around non-crazy folks.
Parents or grandparents who grew up in a different era, friends and family who've made different choices, have a different life view. Media that continually reminds you of the power and problems with big pharma, big agriculture, big government and more.
As a result, we can see our crazy as a bad thing. We can start to think that we are the broken one, when in fact it is so much of our modern world that is backwards and broken.
I have a lot of dreams. I have a lot of visions. I'm definitely a seer, and also an idealist. I spend a lot of time fantasizing about what could be (luckily, I get paid to do this).
I am also super grounded in reality and always taking action towards my visions.
I can hold the truth that things need to change while also being incredibly grateful for what is (including the Starbucks Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso drink I'm currently sipping).
I'm not delusional in a disconnected, disembodied or pessimistic way - I'm delusional in the way that you kind of have to be to start a business, and frankly to bring children into the world at this time.
If this is you too, I offer you this re-frame and reminder:
Your crazy (your idealism, your delusion, your fantasy) isn't a bad thing. It's actually the key to birthing a whole new world.
When we allow ourselves to embrace our crazy, our quirks, our seemingly shadowy parts, not only do we reduce our personal suffering (from contorting who we really are), it's also easier for us to offer up our gifts and to create the change we wish to see in the world.
As I've shared with you, August (and the remainder of the year) holds a lot of tough astrology. Retrogrades, challenging eclipse aspects, and more. But there are also bright spots, including this week, and all of it I believe is supporting us in changing what needs to be changed in our lives, businesses, governments, etc.
On the heels of Sunday's New Moon in Leo, and in the height of Leo's season, I invite you to channel the energy of this brave, heart-centered astrological sign.
What is the world you dream of?
What might some say you are crazy to hope for?
And how can you lean more fully into that vision and claim your role in creating a new reality?
The world needs your crazy. We need your imagination. We need your creative problem solving. We need your best-case-scenario thinking, even if it seems a little delusional to some.
Big hugs,
Emily

Yes, yes, yes!!! I just finished writing something similar... All about owning ambition... and the times when us big dreamers need to be a little delusional! 🥳
